Since we don't have a special thread for that, I'll write it here. That movie Now You See Me, about magicians, the next movie Jake supposed to make. Well, it seems that he is no longer attached to that. It today's rumour.

Yesterday (with big thanks to ELS! ) I finally watched "HOMEGROWN" (It's been on my shelf for ages, but I never got around to watch it). It's listed as one of Jake's movies, but had I not known when to look for him, I would have missed him: He only appears for a second, that's all you get to see of Jake. I'm sure if his dad wasn't the producer he'd probably not even be credited. That said, I really enjoyed the movie. And it has quite a few Jake links, which is not surprising, given that Stephen Gyllenhaal directed it. Billy Bob Thornton (Jack), Hank Azaria (Carter - from LAOD - with a beautiful mullet hair cut) and Ryan Philippe (Harlan) play three dimwits who run a weed plantation somewhere in the woods for Malcom (John Lithgow). When they watch Malcom getting shot by his helicopter pilot they, after a brief period of panic, decide to cut and sell the crop themselves in order to get their wages. Jack starts acting like Malcom, trying to convince everyone that Malcom is still alive, while Carter and Harlan supervise the harvest and compete for the love of Lucy (a stunning and beautiful Kelly Lynch). But really they don't know what they do and soon they have both the Mafia (Ted Danson is hilarious as the slightly disorganised Don with a cute little white poodle) and their dealer Danny (a very sexy Jon Bon Jovi) on their tails. Ryan Philippe was the one I enjoyed most. His portrayal of Harlan, a 20 year old Greenhorn who doesn't even know how he got himself into all this mess, trying to maintain a clear head while being stoned for better parts of the movie reminded me of Pilot. He got himself into all this, but he's not really a bad person. He's looking for love (in Lucy) and validation (with Jack and Carter) really. His performance is very physical, very "hyper" (for a lack of a better word), and with this need to be active and do something, Harlan finally screws up the whole deal. Plus Ryan was so cute at this young age, with a nice physique (he's completly naked for one scene of the movie). Maggie Gyllenhaal and Jamie Lee Curtis appear in the movie shortly too. It's probably not the best movie out there, but I really enjoyed myself and I would definately watch it again.

You're very welcome, Sasha! I have the same feeling about the movie as you do, to be honest I didn't expect much of the movie, but actually I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. Indeed, like you say, not the best movie out there, but still enjoyable Indeed...

After just taking that poll to see how many of Jake's movies I have seen, I have realized how many I have not! Looks like I have some catching up to do!

Again, Els, thanks so much for making it available to me. Also, it's great to have you back. I hope your health is okay.
@laura: I'm down to 4 now: Josh and SAM, A Dangerous Woman, Loverly and Amanzing and October Sky. I'm looking most forward to October Sky, I actually already have it on my shelf for about 4 or 5 months, but since it's the last Gyllenmovie with Jake in a lead, I'm kind of saving it for a special moment.

Thank you for HOMEGROWN information Sasha. It has very impressive cast. They gave Jake only seconds to play, that's why it is not a very famous movie. ;D
