It will spread more slowly, but that will also mean the radiation will be transferred directly to the ground, instead of going down over the sea. Not sure what's better for the Japanese people: contaminated vegetables or fish?
Let's hope the snow will cool down the nuc plant enough for the worst not to happen.

breacking news stated that danger level of nuclear plant grow up to 4, and another small explosion affected the second reactor, i'm very very worried Sasha.... About snow in the sea it would be a bit better, as, not sure how it's possible, the radiations effect decreased more faslty then in the ground, but what if the entire reactor woudl explode? I cannot think something worser...

I'm following the news all day, keeping my fingers crossed that nothing more terrible will happen.
Last saturday my husband stepped on a plane to Tokyo for business. And yes he knew that there was a earthquake. Friday he was calling the whole day with japanese people which he would meet. He could come, nothing wrong in Tokyo. Yeeeh yeeeh * eyes roll *.
I will sent him an email right now for information. I only had one email sunday that he arrived in tokyo without problems * sighs * .
You think my husband is crazy ... YES !! Saturday he will fly to HongKong ... I hope !

Oh my god, MARNY, that is terrible. It was bad as it was, but knowing someone like you is effected somehow makes it worse. Is he still in Tokyo? I almost didn't want to write it, but you're going to hear on the news anyways that the radiation has reach part of Tokyo. Nothing extrem, but significantly increased levels.
I keep my fingers crossed that nothing worse will happen - for all peoples sake. Also I'll include your husband in my prayers until his save return to you. I am so sorry, Marny, big hug!!!!!

Yes I've got mail . He's now used to the earthquakes, but the nuclear power plants going out control is very scary . In Tokyo he sees nothing, except that it is quieter. The appointments outside Tokyo were canceled and others are moved. Now he has a formal dinner. It's strange to hear that the Japanese continue apologize for the earthquake . Probably tomorrow he will fly to Hong Kong instead of saturday. * crosses fingers *

Marny, I really hope everything will turn out fine for your husband, you're in my thoughts! *big hug!* I read that the danger level has now reached level 6, so really bad (Tsjernobyl had the highest danger level: 7). Luckily for Tokyo, the wind has changed and the radioactive cloud is moving to the direction of the sea now - hopefully it stays that way... I think it's really scary this whole situation

I agree with you Els, i'm afraid that could happens a chain reaction inside nuclear plant, i don't wish to thinking it could be that chance.....

Thanks for the update, Marny. I do hope he'll be able to leave sooner than later.
It is strange that the Japanese people would appologize. They are so humble, at least they act that way. I heard an old lady who got rescued after the earthquake appologized to her rescuers for causing so much trouble for them. Like she personally made the earthquake happen.
I thinks it's amazing how calm these people stay. Imagine the same situation in Europe. By now there would be riots, all the supermarkets would have been ransacked and for sure most people would not continue to life in a city only about 200 km away from a potential Chernobyl. I know I wouldn't!
This whole crises keeps me thinking if I should take more precaution for my family. If there were a catastrophe and we couldn't leave the house we'd be starving after two days as I never keep supplies at home.

thanks for the support.
New update (sorry for my really bad english):
This morning (7.00 am) I had a new mail from hubby.
He is waiting at Tokyo airport for his plane to leave. He wrote this mail at the airport. I think he is now flying. I HOPE
Everything was alright there. Yesterday he had another formal dinner and again the Japanese apologies for the earthquake. Japanese are strang people so (over)polite.
Yesterday evening there was a huge shock, more than minutes. They were in the lobby ... on the 27th floor. The whole building was shaking. He wrote that the building was in resonance. Iekkkkkkkk.
In Japan they switch of the power for a couple of hours in the whole country (in turn), but not in Tokyo. They really try to save energy (power). In Tokyo tv's in stores are out, escalators are out, not all lights (TL) are on. Streets are almost empty. Very weird atmosphere
All his visits have been good. He had also oppointments with the National Metrology Institute but there was a lot of damage, that visit was canceled.
Nucleuar reactors are not his thing, especially when they are around the corner armed * shakes head *
But the panic reaction is greatly exaggerated, the amount of radiation os much less than when you're in a CT scan. And people voluntarily are going in. Pfff my husband the optimist. Oke maybe it's less, but you're longer exposed. Agr I don't know, but Im glad he leaves Japan.
He's flying to HongKong and then tries to arrange more appointments. And if not, then he has a few days vacation. Agrrrr not fair!! It was intended that he would fly saturday (19 March) to Hong Kong for business and 23 March to singapore and the 26th he comes home.
