I have just seen Rendition for the first time and WOW. It almost physically hurts to see Jake look like that. I kind of feel sorry for him to have to be looking at this tortured man. But that one scene where he tries to choke the man. Boy, he's kindda scarry doing that but on the other hand it awesome to see him play a tough guy like that. Since all the other films I've seen so far tend to show him vunerable and soft I didn't think he'd pull it off like that. He doesn't really say all that much in the movie (as does noone) but when he does his voice is like silk (not so high pitched as in POP). I really liked the movie, but I'm not sure I want to get the DVD. I mean it's note a movie you watch to uplift your spirit and just ooze over Jake, right? Attachments:

I've seen this movie, it's a good movie, but for sure not one for entratmen, i enjoy it, Gyllenhaal s quite into his role, but it's easy to stand what the movie is about. So i share your thoughts Sasha. Maria

When he says on the phone "This is my first torture." you just want to hug him close and say "It's gonna be fine, baby, they won't hurt you."

I totally agree, but then again - who wouldn't feel strange when suddently exposed to torture.

I guess it's quite normal, but i was surpriced as a CIA agent, you should expect some extreme measures when you went on interrogation someone

the way I got it was he was a CIA analyst and up till then didn't really have anything to do with people, just numbers. Anyway he portayed it very well and believable.

uhmm maybe the director didn't explain quite well the CIA rules, as actually all secret agents get in touch with people sooner or later, but i'd agree with you Gyllenhaal is quite credible as a newbie CIA agent

I like Randition very much. Jake is grown up man there, looking good, acting very well. Have you noticed the change in him after bomber exploded when Douglas was in the car. He was in shock, played it very well. Sex scene was much too short, though very hot. Did you had a chance to see extras. It was much more material about that girl. But they decided to removed it from the movie. Douglas didn't trust her after overhearing her talk on the phone with her grandma. And was checking her. But at the end it proved she was OK. Just like you, I didn't like Meryl Streep character, but she was great in that movie. Reese part was quite touching IMO and she did it well. The tortures I didn't like, but actually, I was afraid it would be worse. i was afraid Jake will be involved in that, but happily he was a good guy in that movie. The ending, when he started to help Reese's husband was like a roller-coaster. Big speed and tension, it was exciting to watch.

I guess in the start Douglas just make his own job a bit lazily, i mean he's an analist and you have the impression that he don't wish to get his hands dirty, he've pointed with his collegue that would be up to him dealing with local agents. I guess after the attack and the explotion of the bomd Douglas was like overwhelmed with astonishment, but reacts quickly, and take the lead of CIA local agency. The scene where he've chocked Anwar is impressive, i love that scene, add more realism to his charater, surely Douglas wish to stir Anwar to confess shortly, as he's afraid about his life, that's my POV, i bet that torture scene are good, for a movie like that, even a bit too soft, there's worse that happened for real in some CIA jail.... Funny you've pointed about Douglas fiancee as i thinked immeditaly he wish to check what she's doing, he've also try to stuck her with him at home intentionally, i've not see the extra but i'll take a look. I would love to see Douglas much more as the bad one, it would be interesting. Withersoon is credible, but hot and cold, if she wasen't in the movie surely it will be better, simply she's not interesting, and her character is quite stereotypied, classic wife that rush ahead to save her husband, a very classic character. The movie is good, i prefer to see more of Douglas but good,

I would like to see more of Douglas, as well. I think, he was not the main character. It was few parallels plots, at least two. Have you noticed the music? Very climatic. I liked it. I had a chance to watch the movie from original DVD, not mine unfortunately. And beside interesting informations about deleted scenes, it was also a kind of second time movie, with director's commentary. It was so interesting, but very long and my friend had to take DVD away, I didn't have a chance to listen to it till the end, just the beginning. Funny thing, when I watched the movie for the first time, I didn't get the story right. I thought, I did. But i have noticed that watching it second time. Then I fully understood everything. Have you noticed? Our Jake has few movies with a mystery. Rendition, Donnie Darko, Source Code seems to be that type too.
