Jake got a bit raunchy with Letterman. Oh well, guess that's late-night TV: let your sexy out. I was glad to hear some talk about the beard. That photo Letterman showed (which we all saw about a month ago) is so awful. I can barely recognize it as Jake. Interesting that when Jake's reps saw the facial hair, they called and asked him if he was all right. I also enjoyed hearing about the Leadville, Coloado, trip with Peter ("my brother-in-law").

Oh, I adored this interview! So precious. I totes shrieked when Dave held up the EW cover which I, for some unknown reason, hadn't seen prior. maxpavlov, it's interesting that you brought up the whole "him not saying Peter's name" thing, 'cause I kinda sorta loved it! I thought it was, I don't know, really cute of him to nonchalantly talk about Sarsgaard without having to "namedrop."

I thought it was, I don't know, really cute of him to nonchalantly talk about Sarsgaard without having to "namedrop." When she was very pregnant with Ramona, Maggie appeared on Letterman to promote her rmovie Sherry Baby. She told some incidents about being pregnant and such, which involved Peter, of course, and sometimes Jake. She never called either man by name. She referred to "the baby's father" (which really sounded strange, but they weren't married then) and "my brother." Letterman never asked her to identify them. I think this comes from several places. The name-dropping thing is one; another might be an attempt to maintain the privacy of those being spoken of. (Don't we all do this to some degree? When I mention family or friends to people who don't know them personally, I tend not to use names.) Ben Affleck was once on a talk show relating some incident that included his family. He kept referring to "my wife" and never used her name.

I feel the same way.
Also, not everybody watching the show would know that Peter is his brother-in-law, but by mentioning the relation they can follow the story without wondering who this Peter might be. Tought I do find "the baby's father" strange. I would have used boyfriend or fiancé instead.
