Jake Gyllenhaal wears a black Yankees hat and a winter coat as he exits a workout at SoulCycle in Greenwich Village. 1.4.13

Looks like it's chilly in NY! I like Jake's new shoes and jacket. I would like that Jake thought sometimes that the pictures taken probably not in the most pleasant way, are seen by his faithful fans. I wish he smiled to us. It makes me always feel guilty seeing how annoyed Jake is on most photos. I understand him of course, but it's no way that paps stopped to follow him. Isn't better to get used to it and wave to us sometimes?

he doesn't appear angry. Just trying to cross the street.

From what I've seen so far, I think Jake is going to find it harder and harder to come to terms with the attention that his fame brings from the media and paparazzi. I do feel so sorry for him, and I agree Mermon, I hate to see him angry, cross or upset in the photos. It must be so annoying being followed day in and day out by paparazzi. I'm sure if it was just a fan taking a photo, he'd be much more obliging with smiles and waves :-). I think this issue will be an increasing personal problem for Jake. I wouldn't be surprised if he becomes quite reclusive, I hope not though ... Actually, we don't see as many pap photos of Jake these days as we used to. New York is a much harder place for the paps to stalk celebrities in than, say, LA. It's known that Jake does SoulCycle, and maybe someone took a chance he'd be there on this particular day. He probably doesn't get followed all the time, but it's true that when he was younger he tolerated the attention much more cheerfully. But he does know that it's part of the business--it goes along with being an A-list actor. I thought he seemed preoccupied rather than annoyed in these pictures. He was probably looking for a taxi. New parka, new LL Bean boots, same old beard. I was hoping he'd shave after the play was over.

You may be right Monica and Evie. That's the problem with the pictures. They capture the moment, the look on the face and make an impression, sometimes the wrong one. That is also right that in NY Jake has much more peace than in LA. Maybe it's one of the reasons, besides his family, that he stayed there to live.

Jake does not get followed around by the Paps like he did in LA. He couldn't go anywhere in LA without the paps being all over him. In the beginning he took it in stride but the more intrusive they became and the more verbally abusive (cause they don't just take pics they make comments) I think he finally had it. I also think that in his early and mid 20s he wanted to be on his own. Be his own man so to speak. But I think the older he's gotten the more he wanted to be closer to his family. he could also see how his sister and her family were left alone by the paps, that it is rare you see photos of them. SO since he's been in NY there have been more pics taken by fans (surrepitiously of course) than by paps.
If anything it is tweeters who invade his privacy by announcing where he is and taking pics of him and posting them.
He has more privacy in NY than he ever did in LA. I wonder if he is keeping his home in LA (along with his car (s) and whatever happened to the motorcycle?
I keep hoping he'll shave that beard. especially if he goes to LA to present an award or for his new role in Prisoners. I can only hope. Show that gorgeous face, Jake. don't hide it

Good to see you posting here--it's been a while. In my mind you and I are among the "old-timers" on IHJ. We've done a lot of Jake watching and talking over the years. You always seem to know more of the facts than the rest of us, and I pay close attention to your comments. Jake has specifically stated he relocated to New York because all the people he loves the most are here. That's such a touching revelation to me, but one I had myself kind of figured out. This may be too much of a projection on my part, but since his parents divorced and the relationship with Reese ended, I have felt that Jake was adrift and, in his inner self, rather lonely. He's busy and being terrifically creative, and has lots of friends, so that's all good, but I sense a sadness in his personal life. After all, Jake is 32 now, not in the carefree young bachelor category anymore, and surely he knows that. I so wish he would find someone to settle down with, whoever that might be. He's a solid guy, so I'm hopeful that his partner would be the right choice, a decent person who would bring joy to his life. I too wonder about the LA situation. Perhaps he's renting his house--that would make financial sense. How would we find out if he had sold it or was planning to? The motorcycle must be out there too, otherwise we'd have seen or heard some reports of him riding it around New York. Maybe he'll sell that, or has already done so. And what of Atticus? I think that Jake placed him with caretakers or a new family in California a few years ago. The last time we saw them together may have been during the filming of Source Code in Toronto or Chicago, not sure which. As for tweeters: I don't go on Twitter, so I'm not up on the latest Jake sightings. Have there been that many? What's he doing? Where is he being seen? I hope at least that the tweeters don't pester him as he goes about his daily routines. It's safe to say he wants to be an ordinary guy in his off-screen life.

IMO NY-ers are respectful. Usually they rather tweet they saw Jake somewhere than where he is at the moment. A lot of tweets with pictures were from the Roundabout Theater, where he was constantly meeting fans after the play.
