I left my hometown at 8am on Thursday morning heading towards Munich. I had a stop over of an hour and a half, so I sat in a Starbucks café and finished my gift for Jake.
It was a turquoise colored cardboard box with 3 bars of a handmade organic Austrian chocolate:
- “A piece of forrest” (chestnut chocolate with walnut nougat and cranberry canache)
- “Oxygen” (dark mountain milk chocolate with balsamic vinegar jelly
- Cashew-Pineapple (dark mountain milk chocolate with cashews and dried pineapple)
I also put a little card with it thanking Jake for the wonderful movies he’s made so far. On the cover of the card I put the picture Maria has made of Jake and I, mentioning that I hope to replace it by a “real” one soon – so Maria: Jake knows about your talent now!
At 5.30 pm I finally arrived in Berlin and shortly after in my hotel:
Pictures from Melia Berlin
There I met with Ayda from WDW. You may have heard about her from Jake himself as the first question he asked on “moviephone unscripted” was from this very “Ayda from Cologne, Germany”. Needless to say she was still head over heels for having heard Jake say her name.
We got ourselves ready for the big night and at 7pm we headed toward the theatre.
On the train we were all giggly about meeting Jake. We had to change trains once, but a very nice family who couldn’t help to overhear our joy ushered us to the right platform and we were on our way again.
Right before we arrived there I got a message from Kate (WDW) to hurry up as there was going to be a red carpet. Imagine how my excitement went through the roof!
In front of the theatre we met with Kate and Anne, a girl from France who had won my spare ticket on WDW and had come all the way from France without a hotel reservation or a return ticket. Now my 670 km didn’t seem so long after all!
We had decided to wait for Jake outside, but a very nice lady from the theatre told us that we would get to see him just fine inside and that there would be free drinks inside. So we did go inside and got ourselves some champagne and a place front row at the red carpet.
I also met our own Jinigirl, thanking her again for sending me the wonderful dress I wore.
There were also some girls from the german site “gyllenhaal.de”, they had buttons made and so I got one of them for myself.
While I waited for Jake to arrive I noticed a german comedian named Oliver Kalkofe. I went over to ask for a picture and he said he’s glad I finally came over to ask as he was about to come over himself to ask. What a charmer!
But the picture turned out quite well, don’t you think?
Shortly after that it started to go wild on the outside and Duncan and Rodene walked past me.
And about a minute later Jake himself came along! The girls from gyllenhaal.de had their gift ready and they were able to give it to him. Christina from WDW, who was next to me, had her pictures and pen in hand so he signed her pictures. Unfortunately I was very badly prepared for his sight! I had my camera in hand, but both my gift and my pictures were still in my bag and I couldn’t get them out in time so I decided to at least take pictures:
Can you believe how close I was to him?
Then he stopped in front of Kate. They exchanged greeting…
…and Jake thanked her for coming all the way from London and shook her hand with both of his. Kate beamed afterward; I think she will not ever wash her hand again!
There was an area for the press to do interviews and it was too crowded to get a decent shot of Jake:
I will post some of these interviews later on.
Kate and I decided to get inside and look for our seats, so that we would be ready when Jake was on stage.
Later Jinigirl told me that her friend had gone back out to bring her glas back and she has met Jake waiting at the bar! Can you believe it? I had been thinking about going to the restroom but decided against it, as I didn’t want to miss Jake. Now I wish I would have gone as I would have had to pass the bar where I could have had a chance for a picture and a signature! Oh well, now it’s too late for regrets!
No much later Duncan and Jake came to the front (as you have seen in the video Sword already posted – thanks again for that!)
Here are some of my better pics:
And yes – he did wear my favourite shoes!
It was only a short moment we saw him (it’s really no longer than the video), but it was worth it. Jake is even better looking in real life and he was so close I could almost smell his aftershave.
When Jake and Duncan headed out again I decided in a split second that I was trying to give my gift to him after all and ran after them. But Jake was too far ahead, plus his bodyguard was between him and I and I didn’t want to cause a riot so I gave the box to the theatre manager and he promised to forward it to Jake. I believe he held word, but of course I have no proof.
I returned to my seat and the movie started. This must be the most comfortable theatre I have ever been to. The seats recline and there are foot stools in front of almost every seat. So I cuddled up in the soft leather and pretended to be leaning against Jake. Not long after that the story had me intrigued and for a short while I forgot about Jake in the flesh as I saw him larger than life!
After the movie almost all guest stayed until the end of the credits and applauded the movie.
All the girls from IHJ, WDW and gyllenhaal.de met once more in the hall and we took pictures:
I’m not giving names as I don’t know if all the girls are OK with it.
I think we were almost the last one’s to leave the building. We went to a pub next door where we all got wine or beer and chatted away.
I sat next to Kate and she has some major stories to tell! She has met Jake at about 10 different occasions, she’s met Peter Sarsgaard three times, Maggie once and one day she stood in line with Steven Gyllenhaal for almost 20 minutes and she spent the time well talking to him about Jake! Also she has mutual friends with Duncan and Rodene and one of her friends works for a movie company – all that explains why she is so terribly well informed about our Jake! Plus she is a very nice woman, never pushes herself in the spotlight, not one to gossip, I highly respect her and her work.
Shortly before 1am we finally left the pub and Ayda and I headed toward our hotel. We couldn’t go to sleep until after 3am, talking about all the nice things we experienced and reliving the evening in our mind. ;D
Sorry for this extremely long post – but everything is still fresh in my mind and this is sort of my diary entry to make this evening immortal!
