Just saw Hal Sparks on a History Channel show about marijuana! He was talking about marijuana not being the major "gateway drug" many claim it to be, but that as a society we ignore the main gateway drugs: alcohol, caffeine, and sugar. Struck me as odd b/c this is different from most other things I have heard about him (pro marijuana). He sounded very grounded and intelligent as well. Sometimes I wonder if Hal gets a bad name? I don't know much about Hal to say whether or not he has been slandered or is truly a giant douche. I have heard from other QaF fans that he has gotten a bad name for various reasons. I know not... My point was sometimes when you see him, he seems almost manic, but on the show he was on tonight, he was lucid and acting his age. In fact he sounded pretty smart and informed, IMHO. I would like some links for the interviews, etc. where Hal said these things. Just curious. ETA: What does "homosexual guilt" even mean? That people cause themselves to have AIDS/HIV due to guilt? I am a bit confused by this statement. By that reasoning, lung cancer is caused by smokers' guilt and skin cancer is caused by sun worshipers' guilt. Are you saying Hal thinks disease is caused by the physiological chemical response triggered by human emotions? That sounds really ludicrous me! |

In what context was this quote? Was he asked a question? The statement, in and of itself, makes no sense. From my interpretation of this statement, we'd all have HIV and only those with expansive, crippling guilt would succumb to it. Is this some sort of 'religious' belief (like Scientology, for instance) or was he trying to sound smart and profound, yet came across as a Tom Cruise-like asshole? I'm not being dense, I just think, the way you are presenting this quote, it comes across as very, very inflammatory, especially for an actor who played a gay character in a relationship with an HIV-positive man for several years. Is this a correct interpretation? I've just read from others that really Hal is just misrepresented/misinterpreted b/c he and Gale had a personality conflict. Sorry if this isn't about Gale or Randy! I've just always wondered about the real-Hal and the truth behind the supposed "bad-blood". XOXOXOX |
