Following Stephanie post: PRISONERS September 20-release date Director: Denis Villeneuve Writer: Screenplay by Aaron Guzikowski Cast: Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Melissa Leo, Paul Dano, Maria Bello, Viola Davis, Terence Howard In the rural New England town of Brockton, Massachusetts, neighbors and friends the Dovers and the Birches gather for Thanksgiving dinner, but by the end of the night, their celebration turns to panic when the families' two youngest daughters go missing. As the hours pass and the girls don't turn up, it becomes terrifyingly apparent they've been kidnapped. After the cops fail to find them, Keller Dover (Hugh Jackman) decides to take the law into his own hands, running up against dedicated Detective Loki (Jake Gyllenhaal). But even as Loki is diligently working against the clock to solve the case, Keller will stop at nothing to get their prime suspect to talk before it's too late. It supposed to be Silence of the Lambs crossed with Mystic River. Others say - a script is Silence of the Lambs crossed with Seven/Se7en. - Both sound intriguing and excellent to me! First poster so far: Cast : Jake Gyllenhaal - detective Loki (33) Melissa Leo & Hugh Jackman - KELLER DOVER (37, a well-built carpenter, father of 6 years old Anna ) Paul Dano , Viola DavisMaria Bello as Grace, Keller's wife Terence Howard -

The last time I read about the casting, Maria Bello and Paul Dano were not included. All these actors are A-list talents with serious credentials. Prisoners is shaping up to be a major film. But it's an ensemble film more than a star vehicle for anyone, though I think Hugh Jackman may have the leading role. Jake hasn't done a project like this since Rendition, back in 2007, and I hope it turns out to be a good choice for him. Let's keep our fingers crossed that the producers can stick to that September opening.

Yes, Evie, I think you're right. Hugh is a main character and leading actor. He was casted as a first. So Jake will be a supporting actor. More cast! From IMDb: Jane McNeill - Nurse Katrina Despain as Kim Milland Erin Gerasimovich as Anna Dover, Keller's/Hugh Jackman kidnapped daughter Kyla Drew Simmons as Joy Birch, other kidnapped girl, she will be playing the daughter of Viola Davis and Terrence Howard Fred Griffith as Groggy Man Jeff Pope as Scott Millan EDIT: Victoria Staley(16) as Jill

From the new trailer, Prisoners seems really good. It puts me in mind of Zodiac, one of Jake's very best achievements. I'm encouraged to believe it's a solid film and am looking forward to it in September.
Jake's character is a pivotal role. I wouldn't expect Prisoners (and Jake's performance) to earn any Oscar nominations. Of course our guy will do his usual strong, committed, interesting work. But this is a crime thriller, a plot-driven story about saving the victims and catching the evildoer, full of action, conflict, and suspense, and not an exploration of the human heart. There are a lot of movies of this type out there, many well-made and exciting. Prisoners would have to be an extraordinary film to rise above the crowd. Still, it has a fantastic A-list cast and should have a major presence. Hope it does well at the box-office.

The latest Entertainment Weekly announced Prisoners for September 20. There's a nice write-up on the film, with quotes from Jake.

Has anyone seen this except me? Jake is excellent as Loki, mature and strong in his performance. The movie is very dark though, and full of tension.

I saw Prisoners last night. It was prepremiere, one week earlier before an official premiere. I took my brother and our daughters. I always take them to Jake's movies since Prince of Persia. I like our family movie going. Prisoners is a very good movie, well made, greatly played. No weak points. I expected it to be harder and darker because of all the interviews I heard or read, but it was just right for a thriller. Plot was very interesting, left me with a few questions. Maybe I'll see it again to get the answers. Jake was fantastic, looked great. Because of many close-ups I could really enjoy his beauty. He created Detective Loki in a very interesting way. He was calm, confident, determined and simply good. I liked his blinking, tattoos etc. Hugh as a father in pain and in rage was very convincing. 2,5 hours flew by so fast, despite the pacing was rather slow. I definitely like Denis Villeneuve style of creating the movie. Poor Alex, what a sad life he had. The other guy as well. Their life was so unfair. Despite I don't agree with Keller treating Alex so badly, I have to admit, that it helped to solve the case. How do you understand the ending? Loki heard the whistle and I hope he eventually took some action to free poor guy. I'm not able to believe, he left him there to freeze and die! What do you think?
