I agree completely about SC sequel, though I don't see Duncan Jones would be ready for that. It was based on some story, I never heard it was any continue to that. But it screams for a sequel. Coming back to Proof, as soon as I finished to watch it first time, I started to look, if it was any news about sequel, cause I wanted so much to see a story about cured by Hal's love, Katherine and just see them together. Then I found out that a movie was based on a theater play and the story was completed.

Hi Mermon, Watched The Good Girl last night! Interesting film. I thought Jake played Holden like he played Donnie Darko - if Donnie had not died you could almost believe this was a sequel to Donnie Darko! Donnie taking up his writing like he suggested in Donnie Darko - interesting. I like the way Jake handles the unhinged, mentally ill young man - I'd like to see him doing more of that sort of roll - he does it so well. I'm wondering if he drew upon any experiences he had growing up as a teenager - most of us go through some really dark times! I'll give Jennifer Anniston the benefit of the doubt in this film - I don't know much of her other - work - so correct me if I'm wrong - she hardly changed her facial expression throughout the whole film apart from when she heard of Holden's suicide. Yes I know she was supposedly suffering from depression. Compared to Gwyneth's performance in proof, Jennifer's was totally underplayed. Perhaps too much? OK shout at me if you disagree! Amanda, I agree with you on Jennifer Aniston in The Good Girl. In fact, after watching it a few times, I concluded that she was totally miscast; that is, she shouldn't have played the part to begin with. I don't think it had to do with the character being depressed, which in the script she's supposed to be. But IMO Justine has to be a bit edgy, a bit of a loose cannon who acts before she thinks and then can't figure out how to fix the damage she's caused. There has to be something kooky about Justine underneath, something both irrational and rebellious. After all, she'd hurt anyone to save her own skin. Aniston never captured that for me. Paltrow in Proof and Aniston in GG may be two examples of approaches that don't work: too much versus too little As to Jake: I never thought of Donnie Darko when I saw him in GG, but it's an interesting idea, that Holden takes up where Donnie leaves off. I can't put it into words, but for me Donnie and Holden are completely different portrayals, even though the characters have some things in common. Jake's greatest gift as an actor IMO is his ability to show the internal state of a character, particularly his torment as he tries to cope with a difficult challenge.

So this is the reason you changed your name? LOL! Maybe you're right. ;D Not really. When I first joined several Jake boards I didn't want a name that would tell something about me. Now that I found out how nice and caring Jake fans are, it seems silly to hind behind that very long (and possessive) name. Most here know my name is Sasha anyway and for the new members it's hard enough to remember all our names. On IHJ it's very easy to change the displayed name, so I decided to change it. I still log on as "MrsJakobGyllenhaal" though. ;D Amanda,
The Good Girl is one of my fav Jake movies, I posted about it in the GG thread. Jake scared the living hell out of me the first time I saw that movie. Don't ask me why, but I had such a strong reaction to that movie the first time I watched it. I jumped every time he appeared on the screen. I almost wanted it to work when Justine tried to poison him. I know that my love for the movie has nothing to do with objective, but to me it's perfect and I love to watch it over and over again. I'm not scared as much anymore, but I still love the movie for the fact that it's the only movie where Jake managed to play a character so good that I actually DISLIKE him dispite my love for him.

amanda - Interesting thought about connection between Donnie and Holden. They are both weird. But Donnie is very bright, much more intelligent than people around him, even some adults. Holden is a lost soul to me, not able to exist in normal life, he sucked on Justine like an ivy and couldn't live w/o her love. Very weak character. It's nothing wrong that we disagree, that's the reason to discuss! About Jennifer and Holden I'll write in GD thread. Thank you Sasha for an explanation.

Sry to hear about ur ruff marrage. That movie must have been tough at times. I agree w/Mermon. I felt sorry for Holden. He was lost in the world and hung on to what he thought was love. Happen all too often. BBM stands on it own. During the time of the film, so hard to ppl to show there love. Great story on struggle of love. I like SC and how it made ya jump. It got me with seeing him in the box. Also, love the scean when he gets 'hit by the train. Jumped at that.

I remember that train scene. I swear you hear his neck break. At least that's what it felt like. Horrible.

Sorry I disagree I don't think SC needs a sequel, I do think it needed a different ending, I was very disappointed with the actual ending... I would've loved the freezed frame in the train to have been the ending, for me the movie would've been perfect then. Just my opinion
