I share the opinions of some but mostly those posted from Anita,
wow this thread moving fast, seems that i was almost skipped... :DLOL
I think that surely the location was scouted before filming the episode, and that of course the rope was securely fixed and checked and tested, and that the camera team have another way to get over the canyon, or simply some very special camera called "Giraffa" mostly used for GP froumla1, taht is able to filimg form big distance in HD resolution, and top to bottom...
i still belive that nothing was planned, nor that Gyllenhaal done some training, he's surely a sporty guy, and a athlete, as i've stated several other times, but i guess that at that time, when the Source Code promotion runs, and this episode was filmed, he hadn't all that time to learning some survivor tecnique, or spent some days at GYM.Surely Gyllenhaal know what's to exected, why not, surely some arrangment had been taken, maybe i'm too naive but i don't think that all was disclosed to Gyllenhaal.
Sure somehting was cutted in the view of the TV show, so not all that was filmed in the end was disclosed in the episode, but i do think that mainly we've seen all, i don't think that Gyllenhaal faking fear, nor that he've show calmly and coolness when he wasen't calm at all.
To me the Rope scene was epic, and true, i think that surely the risk was high, but Gyllenhaal has estimated the situation very well, before acting.
I didn't find nothing odd, or shocking in the peeing scene, as at least there's nothing really to be shocked about, the goat scene was much more hard to stand, but real indeed, the worst feeling is still about the worm scene....that's somehting i will never do....
Also i don't think that Grylls and Gyllenhaal chanced their salopettes-or at least Gyllenhaal weared saloppete- after dradged the river, but maybe i'm naive. ;D
