As couple on mainscreen surely, i guess they cannot last as couple in real life, Monroe had really troubled life, and she was emotionally unblanced and also a borderline personality, Gyllenhaal almost the converse, surely Monroe was talented and original, and in some way the sensibility, the swetness, the inner sensaality reminds me Gyllenhaal, both was almost stalked from press and paparazzi, so i can see a lot of things that linked them to each other as artist and actors....
It's weird don't you think?Even in past actors had really hard times dealing with press, and paparazzi, ad than after their death they have been forgotten, i felt pain for Monroe, think that after her dead the only one that pay a visit to her in cemetary was Jo DiMaggio, that bring to Monroe flower for her birthday, since he've died, nobody take care of her grave...

Back re. the couple thing - I think Marilyn was very sensitive and needed a lot of love and devotion, and needed her career too. Her first husband objected to her modelling, Joe DiMaggio wanted her to be a little housewife and was jealous, Arthur Miller was in trouble re communism and got himself the all American film star to stave his reputation just in time, other men also just used her. I'd like to think Jake would have been more sensitive and loving and as a fellow actor would have understood her. As for being a couple onscreen - I can imagine her in the Misfits with Jake, after all we know he makes a handsome cowboy!
wow i guess we have a point sweetcolumbine, surely on mainscreen Gyllenhaal would be a blast with her in Misfits, it's like you said, Monroe was such troubled, and unlucky with men, i guess that all was wrong for her, but Jo DiMaggio maybe face his mistake? Just guessing, even though Gyllenhaal is a man even very sensitive, and certainly would have leaving Monroe free to make her choices, I'm not sure they would last, together as couple, but certainly would have been a beautiful couple. I can see even James Dean as good match with Monore.
How come I didn't see this thread before? You had really an interesting convo about MM! I love Marilyn and all her movies. Especially Let's Make Love, Bus Stop, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, River of No Return and The Prince and the Showgirl.
she was such charming and sexy, but never over the top, she was sensual in a naive way, even if it sound like a trick of worlds.
- exactly! She was childish, innocent and sexy at the same time. And very natural. It's a very rare combination.
In some ways Marilyn reminds me of Jake - both are extremely handsome, sex symbols really. Both have a very gentle personality, a caring heart, yet they seems to have so much trouble finding true love.
- amazing! I was always thinking that, comparing them! And one more thing - they both have huge impact on both sexes, they are adored by women and men. That's why Jake has such trouble to shake of a gay patch. I saw many tweets from straight men saying how he's appealing for them. I think also, that both of them have a special, unique inner light! It shows in their eyes and in the smile and laughing.

- Ha! I can imagine, how Jake could bring back a balance in her life! Of course, they are from the different times. But I'm sure he could give her love, she needed so much. :)But maybe you're right, they are too similar to fall for each other. Jake seems to like strong women and she was very weak.
sweetcolumbine - you have a good point. I'd love to see them together in a movie. It's unbelievable that her death's mystery is still unsolved. From Gentlemen Prefer Blondes - Bye, Bye Baby
I can easily imagine Jake in that scene! But with a wiser look on his face, of course. ;D He would melt! Don't you think so? ;D
From Let's Make Love - My Heart Belongs to Daddy. Jake could play Yves Montand's part excellently!
From The River of No Return - One Silver Dollar
I like her voice very much, very womanly, low and sexy.
I'm glad to see my MM thread is still here even tho I started it with my other username. I still have Marilyn as an interest - I still find pictures of her on the internet after all this time that I've never seen before. Such a legend.
