I find that your point is interesting as well, i see some stereotype in Grace, well too many, she seemed more boered most of the time than not afraid for her husband, is the main reason why the movie has not been an hit, aslo to my experience the war genre, expecially such actual in nowdays, cannot push the movie so far. Gyllenhaal with his dramatic and interse performance get me with Tommy, among with Izzy, Sam i can understand him as well, but in someway the movie don't caught in the middle, some point can be explained better, and some others can be forgotten, in the whole i like the movie, but the original danish version is much more tense and carnal, so the comparison that jumped into my mind put me off maybe towads expecially the feminine character, also Sheridan is not the director maybe that could suit to this movie, it has been different maybe with Oliver Stone....

Lately I experienced that my mood has a major impact on how I see a movie, so when I see Brothers again (which I will definately do, because Jake is so nice in it), I will bet more of your POV, Mermon. I know that my definition is not what the movie was aiming for. I just couldn't see what Sheridan was going for. Maybe that will change with every subsequent viewing. And Bailee IMO did the best job of all of them. I feel that Jake needs to work quite a bit to not be outplayed by that little lady!

Well honestly i think that Gyllenhaal is very very impressive performing Tommy, due for the family drama, and his troubled past, this is in his way of acting, he can show his best acting in drama characters, i love the bond that he had with the two little actress. This is something that happened frequently in movies when the cast dosen't act at the same level, the most skilled seems the most cheap, i guess that so far Gyllenhaal done his job in a very good way, but simply for several reason, the storytelling, the main actress and director's cut, the movie sadly didn't reach excellence.

I think both Jake and Bailee were excellent in the movie and I am quite certain that - no matter how bad a directore is - Jake could never be anything else than great unless he chooses to be. And he takes acting too serious to ever be mediocre.

Sure it never happened that Gyllenhaal didn't chatch my interested in a positive way, but even if an actor have indeed talent sometimes isn't enought to save a whole movie, but indeed he's he's damn good playing Tommy!

I guess that a movie have several aspects, and all must works together like a machine, if something isn't good, or play out of time, like in a orchestra the whole final result isn't good.... i guess it's Brothers case....

I really liked Brothers. I thought it was a great movie. I really LOVE it when we first see Tommy in prison! He is so HOT with the tattoo on the neck! He looks like such a bad boy!
