Grape - I agree with you completely! Especially what you just mentioned agout Stephen Kijack. In spite of all I've seen posted by those more in the know than me, I can't believe that anyone would deny him three days for a very long standing commitment, tentative or not. Hopefully his wonderful and exciting movie opportunity will be something that I actually get to see. I've been waiting for wonderful and exciting since QAF. While it MIGHT be true that Gale's friend Stephen would cut him a break and let him delay the production of Kijack's project, I don't think it is the opportunity in question Scott says it is a film, whereas the Kijak production will be a TV series on "E" (hardly a widely watched channel or a great opportunity)

Kijak actually has at least three projects in the works - a comedy film, a documentary film and the E! show; the E! series is only at the script stage and has not even gone to pilot. People are speculating that Gale has been cast in the comedy. Kijak is repped by UTA since his Stones documentary so the chance of this project seeing a distribution deal/sale is greater than when Kijak was producing/directing/writing and trying to get backers all on his own. Even when that was the case, all Kijak's films have been on the main festival circuit, have sold and have had DVD deals, all but two have had theatrical runs as well.
EDITED TO ADD: This comedy also has a cast of young up-and-comers attached, including Bono's actress daughter Eve Hewson, Zosia Mamet (daughter of David) from HBO's Girls and Jessica Brown-Findlay from Downton Abbey.
As for Gale being given dispensation to have four days off (people are forgetting travel time) if he is in the middle of preproduction or a shoot, we won't know until after the fact what aspect of his job creates the conflict. It may be that the budget and the union contract only allow for a certain number of consecutive days at a location, or that a location is only available at a certain time, or that someone else's availability who has scenes with Gale is the problem - I could speculate for paragraphs, but my point is that to characterize that situation as "why can't his pal give him time off" if the job is Kijak's film is a huge oversimplification. Producers and directors have people to whom they have to answer as well, especially if giving an actor time off to do something else costs money or holds up the production schedule.

Thanks for the clarification. I only knew about the TV project. And thanks for pointing out that the idea that he could be given a dispensation. is highly unlikely given the way film production works in real life

Could it be possible that this movie is finally being made? “White Cross”An Elmore Leonard-esque neo noir about a childless professional middle class LA woman who finds a kid who she thinks is a meth orphan and takes him home - but the kids past soon catches up with them and trouble ensues... Written and to be directed by Stephen Kijak (SCOTT WALKER 30 CENTURY MAN and STONES IN EXILE, which was in Directors Fortnight Cannes 2010) To star Gale Harold (U.S actor who had a major part in DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, was the lead in the U.S QUEER AS FOLK)” www.miafilms.co.uk/#/production/4530920213

Liberty, yes I am aware that this is real life. I am not mentally deficient. I have seen several posts, not just here, but on other boards where people continue to use the quote "it's just business" and cite the character Gale portrayed in his television show. It wasn't an analysis, honey. It was a comparison. I know that Gale isn't his fictional character! I didn't claim that he was. If you read my post correctly you would have seen that my exact words were "Even the selfish, self serving FICTIONAL Brian Kinney seems to be a better man than the actor that was chosen to depict him." Now if you were implying that people don't make sacrifices for people they care about in real life then I understand that. After all, everyone here is a lot older than me and might be wiser than I but I would personally never do something like that to someone. Call me young and naive to the ways of the world but friends and family are far more important than money. I know everyone thinks he's a swell actor. He's okay. But I really don't think that he's a good person and I'm entitled to think that way. I haven't really enjoyed much of his on screen stuff (Hellcats and The Secret Circle were awful AND I'm actually in the young demographics that the shows were aimed at!) and he really doesn't seem to be a very nice man off screen...

Now that's something I can appreciate! I'm new to this forum and I don't think I joined at a time when it was at it's happiest. As of now, some people still adore Gale. Some don't. To each his own. The world is full of diversity. Accept other's differing opinions and move on with life. Just smile:)

The film Stephen K is currently working on is "Shoplifters of the World Unite," a song by the Smiths. It's a comedy based on a real life event when a fan who was upset at the group breaking up, took a disc jockey hostage in Arizona and forced him to play only Smiths' songs. All the roles had been cast since February w/the exception of one: the disc jockey. They had been trying to get Russell Brand but I don't think it panned out. They start filming next month and are in pre-production now.
"White Cross," AFAIK, still hasn't been able to get financial backing yet.

If they're starting to shoot the movie that weekend, it would be hard to postpone it or let Gale go for that time. They have a schedule, location, other cast, crew members and a whole host of things to consider. Perhaps the project was already underway and Gale is a last minute addition. And he's not that big a star that the production will work around his schedule.

They start filming next month and are in pre-production now. "White Cross," AFAIK, still hasn't been able to get financial backing yet. "Shoplifters of the World Unite" would qualify as a "wonderful work opportunity". Just looking at the IMDB entry: - Gale would be working with his/a best friend - It has Lady Sybil in it - the nice sister out of Downton Abbey - It is rumoured to have the annoying boy from Love Actuallly in it (he annoyed me but I admit that he was a good child actor). - oh wow ... I just discovered that it is rumoured to have the young guy out of Animal Kingdom (fantastic Australian movie) - James Frecheville. - One of the young actors from US Skins has been cast. In short, it is being cast with some very good young actors, already with reasonably high profiles. The role should suit Gale much more than the crap roles he has been playing in recent years. And Gale was/is a huge Smiths fan. So was I (so I'm expecting the worst with this, but that's just how I react when something I love gets adapted to the big screen, but once in a while I'm pleasantly surprised). Here is a little article about it: www.screendaily.com/5037750.articleThe Smiths guys have cleared 20 songs to be used in the soundtrack. If it's successful Morrissey and Johnny Marr will be able to supplement their old age pensions quite nicely. It makes sense that Gale would want to do this, if this is in fact the "wonderful work opportunity". ... but the timing is awful. Just two weeks before the con, when 99.9% of Gale fans would already have signed up. I'm trying to give Gale the benefit of the doubt though. Regarding: the "it's business" reference - I agree with Heather : when I read that reference somewhere else, I had to laugh. Brian used to put business before everyone. It was a Brian attribute I absolutely loathed, and not how I believe anyone should live their lives. Of course he changed, and gave up business entirely for a principal, Justin, his other friends and his community (he actually maybe went too far the other way - but very admirable). What an inappropriate QAF reference to use when defending Gale's actions!

*Yawn* Can we cut the crap? I am tired of reading, "How Gale is disrespectful to his fans. Selfish? Always Cancels. Not going to the convention." It is the same thing over, and over each time that we hear that Gale cancels something. We are sounding like a bunch of "Teenage Heart throbs" where we are not getting our way. it is not going to change anything. Hopefully this new film will show his true acting skills like it did in QAF.
Also how do we know that it is really a Kijak film? Don't always read what you believe about Gale, or about anyone. Yes, Gale is not going to the Convention now, cause 1: it was posted on the convention site, and 2: Scott-tweeted about it.
The convention is QAF convention not a Gale Harold convention. I am a fan of Gale, Love most of his work. But don't be disappointed , things happen in this Hollywood industry, that once you sign a contract you are not able to talk about the film. Right now it is "hear say." I understand that many of the fans spent money to travel to Germany to see Gale, but you were also going to see the rest of the cast. Be Happy that you are able to go where most of us do not have the financial means to travel to Germany. Also Germany is one of the best Countries to travel, and the History of Germany is Absolutely Amazing! My brother got to travel Germany, and he stated that it was one of the best experiences he had. So, fans who can go pat yourself on the back, and call yourself 'Lucky' that you get to have this moment in your life to travel to such a place, and to meet the people that you have watch repeatedly for the past 10 yrs going on 11 yrs of QAF

No one is saying it is the Kijak film. It is just speculation, but it is OK to wonder isn't it? I agree with you that Germany is a great country to visit anyway, QAF con or not, GH or not.
