The play has been extended for 2 weeks there will be a 12 day hiatus after nov 25 then start again dec 8 to dec 22 Welll, I've seen Jake two more times in his play, and have some interesting experiences to report. Spoiler alert: Don't read if you are going to see the play.My second ticket was for the evening of October 31, barely two days after Hurricane Sandy. There was no transportation between New York and New Jersey, where I live, though there definitely was a performance that night. I called the theater and they rescheduled my visit to Sunday, November 18, a matinee, with no extra charge and without any fuss at all. My third ticket was for this past Tuesday evening, December 11. For anyone who hasn't been to the Roundabout, I will tell you it's a beautiful theater and the staff are exceptionally helpful and courteous. The place is a bit confusing to get around in, because I believe the building holds or connects three theaters. In any case, you can either walk up and down a lot of mysterious stairways or take the elevator, which is operated by a real live person! I did that all three times, and the other night the young operator told me that the actors use the elevator at certain times to get backstage at one of the theaters. In September and November, I sat in the front mezzanine--my favorite place to sit in any theater. The second time I used one of the theater's hearing devices because I'd had such a hard time at the preview in September. The device helped a lot, because the actors speak at a conversational level, except when they're arguing. For the December performance, I sat in the second row of the orchestra, on the side, and had a really up-close look at Jake (and everyone else). I was practically on the stage! I caught even more of the play's dialogue, but still missed a few things Jake said. I hadn't realized that as Terry he had several tattoos, fake of course, one on the right side of his neck and another on his left upper arm. They're both big, fancy designs, not pictures. In the September preview, Jake wore a red hoodie over a yellow T shirt nearly the whole time; in my second and third shows, he had the hoodie tied around his waist and just wore the T shirt. This exposed the tats, or maybe they gave him the ink because his arms and neck were now visible. He does a lot of smoking in the play (weed), and only on Tuesday night did I notice a sign at the theater entrance that says herbal cigarettes are used in the performance. That made me feel better about Jake. I guess everyone knows I absolutely hate that he ever smokes at any time. In the preview, Jake was very engaging. Terry is a dysfunctional character, a drinker and pothead who doesn't work, can't get his life together, and causes disruption wherever he is. Yet Jake made him appealing, boyish and warmhearted, all sympathy and good intentions. By November, Terry had turned into more of a mess. He is restless and jittery; he shuffles from side to side, jiggles his leg, and shakes, constantly on the brink of falling apart. He continually twitches his eyes, and they are often desperate eyes. Terry's remarks and comebacks are much sharper and more cutting. In one explosive scene, he and his brother and sister-in-law have an argument, and it gets nasty. This was the same at my third visit, so I assume that Jake has let the character evolve from a likeable screw-up to an exasperating, uncontrollable misfit. Yet Terry is the only one who addresses the elephant in the room, and he genuinely tries to help his niece. I expected some changes from the early previews. Besides the wardrobe adjustment and the character shift, there are some differences in the staging, not major. In one scene, Terry is very drunk/stoned. For me this is Jake's most brilliant moment: nobody does this condition better than he, nobody. And this was true from the very first time. Sitting up close, I could appreciate how slim he is. He doesn't look particularly pumped, but he is still solid, and, as always, quick, graceful, and flexible. He wears a ratty pair of jeans that keep sliding down. On Tuesday night, as he made an exit through a door upstage, the jeans were halfway down his hips and you could see a good stretch of his white jockey shorts over his butt as he flew out! LOL--if he had lost his pants, he would have just pulled them up and kept going. In November I waited outside in the crowd to see Jake come out. All the other actors exited but not he. After a while a staff member told the crowd Jake wouldn't be coming out there and that it was no use waiting. On Tuesday night I hung around for a few minutes, but it was too cold to be standing outside, and I had the feeling Jake wouldn't appear there anyway. I understand some people have seen him afterward and gotten autographs and pictures. Has anyone on IHJ had the good luck? I sense that he tends to avoid the fans after the show.

Thanks for this update, Evie. I cannot even begin how jealous (in a good way) I am that you got to see it three times. Very interesting to see how Terry has changed over the run of the play.

Wish I was there to see it.... As I write this, Jake has just given his last performance of If There Is... Wonder if he's sad to be finished? He has a lot on his plate for the coming months, though, and there's Christmas to celebrate (which I believe he does). And he just had his birthday--there must have been some kind of party. The guy leads an amazing life.

Evie, Thank you for your play's review. I'm glad that the theater rescheduled your visit, very polite of them. Thx for the theater description, I had no idea that is more then one there. You surprised me as well that there are hearing devices. Surely it could help. No one before you mentioned using this and some people complained, that they didn't catch everything from text. Good for you! Jake's tattoos I saw on many pictures before, I even ask few journalists on Twitter before their interviews with Jake for mentioning it. I hoped Jake could show them to us, but no one asked him about that. The biggest one on Jake's neck looks like a wing to me. Interesting info about that herbal cigarettes. Good for Jake! But when he left for cigarette break out of the theater, I guess he smoked real ciggies. - means he was less likable in later shows? What about the other actors, did they change as well? - what a great description of a wonderful man! - absolutely not! There are plenty of the pictures of him and fans outside the theater! Here you may see it on our Gyllenfriend's blog: gyllencrazy.wordpress.com/2012/12/19/happy-birthday-jake/ Jake was quite patient and nice to his fans, but rather quick, but that's understandable. He was for them almost every night! Thank you so much for so many interesting things you told us. I wish I could see it. Here is a chance to preorder If There Is I Haven't Found It Yet: A Play [Paperback], if someone is interested, will be released on March 19, 2013: www.amazon.com/If-There-Havent-Found-Yet/dp/0865477701/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1356106349&sr=1-1&keywords=if+there+is+i+haven%27t+found+it+yet
